Which drugs come with the worst punishments?

By virtue of the federal Controlled Substances Act (CSA), in the United States, each illegal drug has been classified by the federal government according to its potential dangers and likelihood of abuse. Those drugs viewed by the government to be the most dangerous and the most likely to be abused fall under the most dangerous drug "schedules," Schedule I and Schedule II. Criminal convictions related to drugs in these categories also come with most severe punishments.

Drugs associated with Schedule I

Schedule I drugs include substances that have the highest potential for abuse and serious injuries among users. According to the government, these drugs also do not have any valid medical purpose. Schedule I drugs include cocaine, heroin, marijuana, LSD, magic mushrooms, ecstasy and more.

Drugs associated with Schedule II

Schedule II drugs are considered to have a high potential for abuse and serious injuries among users; however, this potential is not believed to be as serious as it is for Schedule I. Also, medical patients may be able to obtain a valid prescription for these drugs, so they are deemed to have a medical purpose. Schedule II drugs include Adderall, Ritalin, morphine, methadone and other substances.

If you were accused of possessing Schedule I or Schedule II controlled substances, it's a serious offense and could result in criminal consequences if you're proved to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in Pennsylvania court. As such, you may want to defend yourself carefully against the criminal allegations. A successfully-navigated criminal defense could help you obtain a verdict of not guilty or receive a less-severe punishment in the event of conviction.
